Ayegardening year in review

A year in review: Ayegardening’s 2023 in landscaping

What a year it’s been at Ayegardening! As the year draws to a close, we’re taking some time to look back at our 2023 in landscaping, reflecting on some of the projects that we have completed this year.

Landscaping Project: A Wimbledon garden gets the designer treatment

We love to help our clients make the most of their outdoor spaces, whatever the size. So when we were asked to work on this small Wimbledon garden, designed by Claire Moreno we jumped at the chance!

Claire’s design combined clean lines and modern planting to achieve a sophisticated but practical outdoor space that made the garden look bigger.

Landscaping Project: A Dorking garden gets a fresh makeover

Sometimes our clients need us to design their new garden for them, but others like Nick and Siobhan come to us with very clear ideas about what they want. We were very happy to listen closely and enjoyed collaborating with the couple to give them what they envisaged.

Nick and Siobhan’s garden had a very unusual shape which they wanted to maintain. And with decades of family photos on the front steps, to memories of games and parties on the lawn, we needed to honour the heritage of the space whilst giving this Dorking garden a refresh. https://www.ayegardening.co.uk/landscaping-project-dorking-garden/

Landscaping Project: How we brought old and new together in a Teddington garden

Have you ever thought about reusing elements of your old garden when designing a new one? In this Teddington garden, we were able to do exactly that... keeping costs down whilst developing a beautiful new garden around some of the existing infrastructure. Leaving the family can focus on bringing more flowers and nature into their garden.

This was another small, suburban plot, this time in Teddington. Fiona and Oliver already had a plan from a garden designer, which they asked us to bring to life.

A driveway extension using resin bound in Copthorne

Next, a driveway. We’ve installed many different driveways this year, and resin-bound is a popular choice. This client chose “Barley Butter” by SureSet to replace a gravel area for parking four cars. Our client chose a resin-bound finish as it was permeable and would complement the existing block paving to the front of the property.

Jacksons tongue and groove fencing Attractive and secure boundary fencing

We spend a lot of time fencing here at Ayegardening. On this project, the had recently finished some building work on their property, and needed to complement this with a new, attractive, secure boundary to three sides of our garden. As Jackson's fencing-approved installers, we were happy to suggest Jacksons Fencing as the perfect solution.

Our clients chose a tongue and groove fence, with added Venetian trellis for the bottom boundary fence.

Landscaping Project: Mid-Terrace magic!

This small garden space in Mitcham was in dire need of transformation. It was little more than a couple of out buildings and failing grass… until we stepped in to transform owner Matt’s design into something much more inspiring!

From our first discussions with Matt and Rick, it was clear that quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail were important to them. By doing some of the work themselves, the guys could focus their budget on the premium materials and quality construction that were so important to them.

Modern resin-bound driveway in Reigate Sterling silver resin bound driveway

Another driveway… this time replacing a tar and chip surface with a “Sterling” resin-bound driveway by SureSet. We kept the granite edging of the driveway as it was the perfect edge for the new resin-bound surface. The grey tones complement the modern house and tie in with the hints of grey around the property.

Landscaping Project: Modern Materials and a Historic Property

When landscaping gardens for older properties, design decisions can be even more difficult than usual. Preserving the home's history has to fit with modern living, and it's easy to become overwhelmed by all the possibilities.

On this project in Bletchingley, we worked closely with our clients to accentuate the historic features of their 500-year-old house. We used modern materials to build a space their growing family can enjoy for years.

Bletchingley small garden makeover

We were back in Bletchingley for this small garden makeover. Our clients were very keen to attract wildlife to the garden so wanted some new planting areas and to soften the hard landscaping that they had inherited.

Our clients wanted a modern look with clean/straight lines and the garden separated into 'zones'. They opted for oak sleepers for the raised beds, design board decking in "Luna" finish and midnight black limestone as they liked its dusty tones when dry. Completed with lots of lovely, lush planting, this was a real transformation, bringing nature into this garden with the use of modern materials.

Landscaping Project: A Redhill Driveway fit for the whole family

We love a transformation, and this project was certainly that! In this Redhill property, we cleared an overgrown, hard-to-manage, traditional front garden and designed a handsome frontage of a practical driveway planted with pretty shrubs and trees.

This project made such a difference to the family, as they are now able to drive in, park, and exit without needing other members of the household to move their cars. Not only did we make the space more practical, but it looks stunning too.
